A relatively new concept in multifamily living is beginning to take shape in Jacksonville.

Developer EDEN Living is currently doing site work for its horizontal apartment development called EDEN Arlingwood. The project is located on nearly 20 acres at the Northwest corner of Southside Connector and Tredinick Parkway.

The development will consist of 192 single-story apartments and 76 two-story townhomes, in a model that differs from traditional apartment development buildings. The horizontal apartment concept has caught on in the last few years, giving renters more space for private yards and courtyards not usually found with apartments.

EDEN Living announced the project last year, along with Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing, which made a capital commitment for the development.

The company has similar horizontal apartment developments in West Melbourne, Wildwood, Ocala, Port St. Lucie, and Ellenton, Florida.
